  1. pattern correction. on large sizes if you repeat ro 7 and 8 until it reaches 8 inches...you end up with a plate as row 7 continues to increase. you could state add a row 9 that states the same as row 5 and ends with 70 stitches stating to end at 8" with a row 8.

  2. Oh oh--you are so right!!! Thank you so very much. I will correct the pattern and hope no one is wearing a plate.

  3. Dear Sandyfroglegs, Love your pattern, a man's crochet hat that is not too lacy, warm, and requires no pompon on the top!

  4. Dear Sandyfroglegs, I love it that you provide the deciphering of the abbreviatiations--hardly anybody does that. You know what would be great for us beginners? ...if you could post a picture of each of the abbreviated stitches; that would certainly help me. THANKS!!!

  5. Hello Maria- My picture taking skills are lacking. But I will try to find links that will help with the stitches in future patterns! Thank you!!!

  6. Thanks for the pattern. We are sending hats to the soldiers to wear under their helmets. Most of the patterns are for knitters.

  8. On row 7, I only end up with 68 stitches - how do I increase evenly to get to 70?

  9. Peewee--With the hat laid flat, increase by one stitch on either side of the hat so that the increase of two is worked evenly into the hat.
~Thank you for trying my design!

would anyone be interested in making the mans hat for our troops in Afghanistan? Bitter cold there and they are in dire need of headwarmers. thank you very much.

  11. I would be interested in making some for the troops! My brother just entered the Navy in December so my heart is there:) I can do some crocheting, I just don't really have the money to put out for the yarn/mailing it.

  12. Very nice pattern. I've been searching for a pattern for my college age son. This was perfect! Thank you for sharing.

  13. I can't seem to decipher angelfire's correction. Is the current pattern that's on the blog the correct one? If not, could you please re-post the correct version? Thanks for sharing free patterns! I just picked up this hobby and it's nice to grab a free pattern from people who like to share! Thanks!

  14. Tricia--Thank you for trying my design. Thankfully Angelfire's alert allowed me to correct the pattern, so no plates. If you are a Ravelry member, you can get a look at the hats others have made using the pattern.
Again- thank you for trying my designs. ~Sandyfroglegs

  15. I am new to crocheting--what is medium (4) worsted weight yarn? Is this the type of yarn? what does the 4 stand for? And how much yarn will I need to complete the small/medium sized hat? Thanks!

  16. Hello Rachel- Thank you for trying my design. The yarn I used is Red Heart Super Saver Solid. I weighted the hat after crocheting it using a digital postage scale and it weighted around 2.3 ounces but each person who crochets one will use different amounts (depending on how tight or loose they crochet.) hopefully a skein of Super Saver will be enough. Here is a link that will help explain the (4). http://www.coatsandclark.com/Products/KnittingCrochet/Yarns/Coats+and+Clark+Knitting+and+Crochet+Yarns.htm
Thank you and hope this info helps-Sandyfroglegs

  17. How many rows does it typically take to get to 8 inches on the large/xl hat? I would like to alternate colors, but I don't know how many rows of each I should do. Thank you for the awesome pattern!

Hello Cherish--I don't have one on hand to measure but if you belong to/or join Ravelry you can view several of the hats there.

  20. I would like to make this hat with super bulky yarn which uses a 9mm hook. The man's head is 23 1/4". Usually, I'd consider that "large". But given that this calls for a size 8 hook, should I make the smaller size?

    Thank you,
    NYCSilk

  21. Hello NYCSilk--Thank you for the compliment of wanting to try my design. I hope you have access to Ravelry! Here is a link to someone who used a bulky yarn. Please take advantage of the comments for the hat they made (thank you to all those who have tried my designs!)

  23. I am in the process of making this
hat, but after the second increase it will not lay flat. It is all
wavey. Is it supposed to be that way?

  24. For Joann~ Thank you for trying my design! I crocheted a baby hat a few days ago. It would bunch up on each increase row; then smooth out on each even row. I hope this helps!!!!
